Meet Roy Gluckman: Agent of Change
Roy Gluckman (30) is a believer in people’s ability to change. So much so that he left a promising law career to pursue his passion for transformation and equality.
ON CHANGE FOR GOOD
Cohesion Collective works on social cohesion by entering spaces unwilling to have difficult conversations and encouraging them to engage on issues that we think divide us, such as race, gender, sexuality, disability, culture and language. It’s all about working through what makes us different, and chatting through how we create inclusive spaces where all these differences can come together.
“I’m driven by the belief that people can change, because I’ve seen my own change. We just have to create the right ingredients.”
ON SPEAKING THROUGH STYLE
My partner is a black male, so we play with style a lot in our business and use it to highlight how different levels of trust are handed out to different race groups in different proportions. We use our different style choices to show the insidious nature of how we hand over trust, the extra effort people of colour need to make to be seen, as well as the privilege of whiteness when it comes to such benign decisions such as wardrobe.
ON DRESSING FOR HIS MOOD
Style is an expression; there’s a sense of story in the way one chooses to dress. My style is my personal story, and really depends on how I’m feeling that day. I love more classic items, but will always incorporate interesting patterns, textures, and colours.
Roy is wearing: Made-to-Measure Suit in grey (blazer only) // St. James Meridien Modern Long Sleeve// Timex Weekender Chronograph Watch//Naked & Famous Slim Fit Stretch Jeans in Indigi x Indigo Stretch Selvedge//
ON THE ODRIN DIFFERENCE
I love that the items can be styled in different ways, from power meeting to grabbing a quick lunch. My favourite style moments can best be described as ‘midway through a wedding’ – that moment when you’ve taken off your jacket and rolled up your shirt sleeves – which I feel Odrin totally gets!
ON LONG-LASTING CHANGE
I’m driven by the belief that people can change, because I’ve seen my own change. We just have to create the right ingredients.
